Is transferring to the United States Merchant Marine Academy possible?

I'm currently thinking about the possibility of transferring to the United States Merchant Marine Academy. Does anyone know if they accept transfer students, and if so, what the process looks like? Any insights on requirements would be a huge help!

The United States Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) does not accept transfer students. Instead, all individuals must apply as new candidates, regardless of their prior academic experience. This process includes the completion of an online application, the submission of management informational systems (MIS) forms, medical exams, nomination from a congressional representative, and passing of the Candidate Fitness Assessment (CFA).

If you've previously taken college courses at another institution, you may be wondering about transferring those credits to the USMMA. It's important to understand that while the USMMA does evaluate college transcripts, this is typically done to strengthen your application or to possibly exempt you from certain basic courses once you're admitted.

Also remember, as a federal service academy, the USMMA has a unique commitment requirement. Upon graduation, you're obligated to serve in the United States Merchant Marine or another branch of the military for a certain period of time.

Therefore, applying to the USMMA is a significant commitment and the process is notably different from a standard college application process. Preparation is key, so it would be beneficial to start early and get familiar with all the requirements. Admissions are fiercely competitive, with the academy accepting only a small number of the several thousands who apply every year.
