Are there scholarships for kids of 100 percent disabled veterans?

My parent is a 100 percent disabled veteran, and I've heard there might be scholarships available for kids in this situation. Can anyone provide specific names or places to apply for these opportunities?

Absolutely, there are several scholarships available specifically for dependents of veterans, including those who are fully disabled. One option is the Dependents' Educational Assistance (DEA) program, often known as Chapter 35 Benefits, which provides education and training opportunities to eligible dependents of veterans.

Another resource is The American Legion Legacy Scholarship. This scholarship has been established for children of veterans who died while on active duty on or after 9/11, or have a combined VA disability rating of 50 percent or greater.

The Military Order of the Purple Heart Scholarship is also open to dependents of recipients of the Purple Heart, which includes those who are 100 percent disabled.

The Armed Forces Crossroads Scholarships for Military Children is a program largely funded by vendors of military commissaries and exchanges. While it isn't specifically for children of disabled veterans, it's open to any qualified military dependent.

Finally, the Fisher House Foundation also administers "Heroes' Legacy Scholarship" for children of fallen and disabled veterans.

Remember, each scholarship comes with its own set of eligibility criteria, deadlines, and application requirements, so I would encourage you to do further research into each one to determine if they align with your educational goals and circumstances.

Lastly, when searching for scholarships, be sure to utilize a variety of sources for your search, including military advocacy organizations and the financial aid offices at colleges or universities that you're interested in. Make sure to ask about any scholarship opportunities they might have for children of veterans, as some schools offer scholarships in-house which aren't widely advertised elsewhere. Good luck with your search!
