Is anyone willing to share their ACT Reading strategies?

I've been studying for the ACT and could use some advice on how to approach the Reading section. What strategies have worked well for you guys?

Hey there! It's terrific that you're looking for tips on how to improve your ACT Reading score. I'm happy to share some strategies that can work well. Keep in mind that everyone is different, so feel free to try different approaches to see what works best for you.

1. Skim the passage first: Instead of reading the passage in detail, try to get a general understanding of what it's about. Focus on the main ideas and notice the structure of the passage. This will give you a solid foundation to work from when answering questions.

2. Read the questions first: Some people find it helpful to quickly read through the questions before tackling the passage. This way, they know what information to look for and can avoid wasting time re-reading the passage multiple times.

3. Answer the specific questions first: Questions that ask about specific details are usually easier to answer since you can go back to the passage to find the answer directly. Save the main idea and inference questions for the end.

4. Keep track of time: The Reading section gives you 35 minutes to read and answer questions for four passages. So, divide your time accordingly—aim for 8-9 minutes per passage, including answering questions. Use a watch or the test room's clock to stay on track.

5. Eliminate wrong answers: If you're stuck on a question, try to eliminate the obviously wrong answer choices. This increases your chances of selecting the correct answer even if you're guessing.

Remember that practice makes perfect, so the more you work on your Reading skills, the more familiar and comfortable you'll become with the ACT Reading section. Good luck!
