Do any colleges offer scholarships for bowling?

I've been part of my high school's bowling team for the past two years and love it. Are there colleges that offer scholarships for bowling, and if so, what do they usually require?

Indeed, there are several colleges and universities across the United States that offer scholarships for bowling. These colleges range from NCAA Division I to smaller private institutions.

For instance, Wichita State University, one of the top college bowling programs, offers scholarships for their team members and has historically been very competitive. Their requirements generally include a certain GPA, bowling ability, and previous competition experience.

Schools like the University of Nebraska and Robert Morris University (Illinois) also have strong bowling programs and provide scholarships for students talented in the sport.

Most bowling scholarships are talent-based and decisions are typically made by the coach after reviewing applicants' past performance and potential. As such, the specific qualifications can vary greatly from school to school, with some focusing more on your athletic performance and others considering academic achievements as well.

In general, for bowling specifically, coaches are likely to look at your average scores, tournament performances, and consistency in play. Having a strong high school record, participating in state and national tournaments, and performing well in those tournaments would all be beneficial.

In addition, you might also want to consider the USBC (United States Bowling Congress), which offers several scholarships for high school bowlers. The qualifications vary by scholarship, so it would be beneficial to visit their website to see what is currently offered and whether you might qualify.

Remember that attending bowling tournaments and showcases can additionally serve as an opportunity to be scouted by college coaches.

On a final note, many athletic scholarships require you to maintain a certain GPA, so ensure you are also focusing on your academic performance throughout high school.
