Best colleges for swim scholarships in Texas?

Hey everyone, I'm a high school swimmer looking at schools in Texas. Can anyone share experiences or suggestions on colleges with strong swimming programs that offer good scholarships? I'm trying to stay in-state if possible.

Sure, staying in-state often gives you a tuition advantage and there are several schools in Texas that have strong swimming programs and offer athletic scholarships:

- The University of Texas at Austin: This is known for having one of the strongest swimming programs in the country. The men's swimming and diving teams have clinched several NCAA championships. They offer athletic scholarships which are competitive, so you'll need to ensure your performance in the pool and your academic record are both strong.

- Texas A&M University: Another strong program, the Aggies are considered contenders at the Southeastern Conference and NCAA Championships. Similarly, scholarships will depend on athletic and academic performance.

- Southern Methodist University (SMU): SMU's program competes in the American Athletic Conference. Their women's and men's teams consistently rank among the top 25 in the country.

When considering athletic scholarships, remember that these are often full-ride or partial scholarships depending on the school and your athletic ability. Being in contact with college coaches and sending them your swim times can increase your chance of getting a scholarship.

Also remember that even if athletic scholarships aren't an option, there are other types of financial aid available. Make sure to complete the FAFSA to be considered for federal, state, and school-specific aid. Finally, look into applying for private scholarships outside of those offered by the school.

Just to make a note: It's important to have an academic plan in case the athletic route doesn't pan out. Balancing athletics with studies can be challenging, ensure your college choice meets your academic needs first and foremost, with the added benefit of a good swimming program. Your education will pave way for long term success.
