Scholarships for Black males from single mother homes

I was raised by a single mom and I'm a Black male senior in high school. Are there any scholarships or programs that specifically help students like me ease the financial burden of college?

Absolutely, there are many scholarships tailored to support students from single-parent households and students of color. Here are a few:

1. The "Live Más" Scholarship Program by the Taco Bell Foundation seeks to help innovators, creators, and dreamers of all backgrounds. It's not need-based or academically-driven, but rather seeks to support your passions and dreams.

2. The "UNCF General Scholarship" is open to all African American high-school students planning to attend a four-year college or university. The United Negro College Fund offers multiple scholarships targeted at African American students, so this could be a great resource to look into.

3. The "BMW/SAE Engineering Scholarship" is directed at students who are racially underrepresented in the field of engineering, along with other qualifications. If you're interested in Engineering, this would be a fantastic opportunity.

4. The "Against The Grain Groundbreaker Leadership Scholarship" offers financial assistance and mentorship to students of Asian or Pacific Islander descent, or any ethnicity for that matter, that have been raised by a single parent or who have lost both parents.

5. The "Jeannette Rankin Women's Scholarship Fund" aims to support women who are 35 or older and have low income, which includes the single mothers themselves who are pursuing a college education. So while this might not apply directly to you, it could be a good thing to mention to your mother if she's interested in furthering her education.

6. Many colleges also offer their own scholarships for underrepresented minorities, so it's worthwhile checking with each individual college you're applying to if they offer any scholarships you would qualify for.

Remember to apply to a mix of both exclusive, highly-competitive scholarships and smaller, lesser-known scholarships to maximize your chances of receiving financial aid. Good luck!
