Scholarships for Children of Retired Firefighters?

Hey, I'm a junior looking into scholarships and wondering if there are any specifically for kids of retired firefighters. It would be a big help for my college expenses. Does anyone know any programs or organizations offering these?

There's quite a few organizations offering scholarships for the children of retired or deceased firefighters. Please note that these are subject to change and some may have eligibility requirements beyond parents' occupational status, like GPA or area of study. As such, make sure to verify the information from their official websites or representatives. Here are some examples:

1. The National Fallen Firefighters Foundation offers a scholarship for children of firefighters who have fallen in the line of duty. The Foundation awards scholarships for undergraduate and graduate study, including, in some cases, vocational-technical training at accredited institutions.

2. The International Association of Firefighters Foundation offers scholarships for children of professional firefighters who died in the line of duty. While this particular scholarship may not apply to retired firefighters, it's still worth looking into their other programs that could be a fit for you.

3. The Firemen's Association of the State of New York also provides a higher education learning plan (HELP) for volunteer firefighters. While it's a New York-focused program, it's possible your state has a similar organization offering scholarships.

4. W. H. "Howie" McClennan scholarship provides financial assistance for sons, daughters or legally adopted children of firefighters killed in the line of duty planning to attend a university, accredited college or other institution of higher learning.

Remember, never limit yourself to just one type of scholarship. Many scholarships are related to academic and career aspirations, community involvement, and unique talents, among other things. Keep researching and applying - there are plenty out there! Best of luck!
