Scholarships for children of teachers?

My mom is a teacher and I'm hopeful that there might be scholarships for kids of educators. If anyone knows about specific scholarships or where to look, I'd love some advice.

Indeed, there are several scholarships out there specifically catered to the children of educators.

1. The Learning Disabilities Association of America awards the Anne Ford and Allegra Ford Thomas Scholarships to students with learning disabilities who are pursuing post-secondary education. Though it's not necessary for a parent to be an educator, they place specific emphasis on applicants who show a commitment to education and overcoming challenges.

2. The GE Star Awards Program offers children of eligible GE employees and retirees the chance to compete for a $2,000 renewable scholarship. If your parent is a teacher and is also employed in a GE-affiliated school, this could be a great opportunity.

3. The Gordon A. Rich Memorial Foundation awards need-based scholarships to dependent children of full-time educators in the financial industry.

4. The Phi Delta Kappa International awards the Prospective Educator Scholarships to high school seniors or college undergraduates intending to study education who have a parent or grandparent who is a Kappan (member of PDKI).

5. The Teach NYC Scholarship Program, specific to NYC residents, offers a scholarship program for high school seniors intending to teach in a high-need field in the NYC public school system. This could be a great opportunity if your parent is a teacher in NYC and you're also interested in teaching.

Remember to use scholarship databases like Fastweb, Scholarships.com, and Appily to continue your search as they provide a wide range of opportunities that might not be specific to children of educators but could still apply to your situation. Always prioritize local scholarships first as these often have less competition.

Remember, many scholarships require an essay or another form of personal statement. Take some time to draft and revise these pieces of writing, making sure they accurately portray your experiences, ambitions, and personality. Good luck with your scholarship hunt!
