Sample College Scholarship Appeal Letters: Any Good Resources?

I'm in the process of crafting an appeal letter for a college scholarship and could really use some sample letters to guide me. Does anyone know where I can find effective examples or any tips on what to include?

When writing a college scholarship appeal letter, it's important to be genuine, respectful, and direct in your request. You need to explain why you've decided to appeal the decision, provide evidence or reasons for your request, and thanks to the reader for considering your appeal.

As for examples, College Board and Fastweb used to have good resources for how to approach writing an appeal letter, but they've since taken down these pages. I'd recommend looking at these following tips instead:

1. Be specific: Clearly state the reasons for your appeal, such as a change in your financial situation, an improvement in your academic standing, or new information that was not available when you applied for the scholarship.

2. Provide evidence: Attach relevant documents and statements that support your appeal. For example, if you are appealing based on financial need, then provide copies of bank statements or pay stubs.

3. Be respectful: Remember, you are requesting a reconsideration, not demanding it. Use respectful language and maintain a professional tone throughout the letter.

4. Show gratitude: Always express your appreciation for the reader's time and consideration, regardless of the outcome.

5. Be brief: Keep your letter concise and to the point. Stick to one page if possible.

In terms of structure, your letter should:

- Begin with a formal salutation (Dear [Recipient's name or "Scholarship Committee"])

- Clearly state your name, the scholarship you applied for, and the reason for your appeal in the first paragraph

- Give the reasons for your appeal and any supporting evidence in the second and third paragraphs

- Close with a thankful and respectful conclusion

Note that when you submit an appeal, the decision might take a while to review so be patient with the process. Also, keep in mind that not all scholarships allow for appeals, so make sure to confirm the policy with the scholarship issuer in advance. The timeframe for submitting an appeal can also vary, so ensure you send it in a timely manner.
