What's the SAT score needed for college scholarships?

I'm trying to figure out the SAT scores that most scholarships require. Is there a general range I should aim for, or does it depend significantly on each scholarship? Any advice would be amazing as I'm planning my study schedule!

The SAT score required for scholarships can vary widely based on the scholarship itself. Some scholarships may have a specific score threshold you need to meet or exceed, while others may prioritize other factors such as GPA, extracurricular involvement, or demonstrated leadership.

That said, a lot of the more competitive, merit-based scholarships do expect strong academic performance, and high SAT scores can positively contribute to that. To maximize your chances for these types of awards, you may want to aim for scores above the 75th percentile of all test-takers.

One example is the National Merit Scholarship Program, which doesn't use the SAT, but relies on the PSAT/NMSQT for the initial screening process. Here, aiming for a high percentile ranking is crucial as the cutoffs for consideration can be above the 99th percentile in some states.

However, remember that even if a scholarship has a recommended or minimum SAT score, your score is usually just one element of your application. Scholarship organizations often look at your application holistically, including your essays, letters of recommendation, and involvement in activities outside the classroom. So, while a high SAT score can certainly be beneficial, it's not the only factor that can determine your eligibility or competitiveness for a scholarship.
