Scholarships for Deaf Students

Are there scholarships out there specifically for deaf students? I want to make sure I explore all the possibilities that could support my college education. If anyone has been through this process, any tips or names of organizations would be great!

Absolutely, there are a number of scholarships out there specifically designed to support deaf and hard-of-hearing students in their pursuit of higher education.

One organization to check out is the Alexander Graham Bell Association for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. They offer several scholarships for full-time students who are deaf and hard of hearing and who are pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree.

The Sertoma’s Scholarship for the Hard of Hearing or Deaf is another option. It's given to students with clinically significant bilateral hearing loss.

There's also the AG Bell College Scholarship Program that provides scholarships to students who are deaf or hard of hearing and use Listening and Spoken Language, and who are pursuing a four-year undergraduate degree or a graduate degree at an accredited mainstream college or university.

Remember, scholarships are just one aspect of financial aid. Make sure to complete your FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) accurately and timely. Your FAFSA results can sometimes open doors to additional scholarships, grants, work-study opportunities and low-interest loans.

In your scholarship applications, tailor your personal statements to highlight how your experiences as a deaf student have shaped your educational journey and your future aspirations. It's these unique perspectives and stories that often stand out in scholarship considerations.

Though these are just a few examples, there are many more scholarships out there. Be sure to start your search early and apply for as many as possible to increase your chances of receiving awards. Best of luck in your scholarship search! Let us know if you need help with anything else.
