Any scholarships out there for French horn players like me?

I'm a high school junior who's been playing the French horn for years and I'm hoping to continue in college. Are there scholarships specifically for French horn players or musicians? Any leads would be super helpful!

Hello!

Most definitely, there are indeed scholarships specifically targeting musicians and potentially even French horn players. Searching for music scholarships by instrument can sometimes yield fruitful results.

For instance, the John Philip Sousa Foundation offers the Dr. Robert Hawkins Memorial Scholarship for students who play brass instruments, including French horn. This one could be an excellent fit for you.

Additionally, the National Federation of Music Clubs (NFMC) provides a range of scholarships for high school musicians interested in pursuing music in college. While some of their grants target specific instruments, there are also broader grants for all musicians. You might want to inquire about the specifics regarding the French horn.

In addition to these, many universities with robust music programs offer scholarships to recruit talented musicians. These might be either merit-based, need-based, or a combination of both. Take a look at the music departments of the universities you're interested in, as they might have scholarship opportunities available.

One other avenue to explore would be local music organizations or orchestras in your area. Many such organizations offer scholarships to aid young musicians in their education.

It's great to see you carrying your passion for French horn into college! Best of luck in your search. Remember to start the application process for these scholarships as early as possible to increase your chances. Keep practicing!
