How I managed to fund my college with scholarships?

Absolutely! Navigating through the scholarship process can certainly seem intimidating, but it's ultimately highly rewarding. The key for me was taking the time to research multitude of the opportunities out there. Scholarships are not just limited to those awarded by colleges or those for high achievers in academics or sports. There are numerous scholarships offered by local organizations, national foundations, and even corporations that are designed for a wide array of students with diverse interests.

While this search can be time consuming, it's very essential. I strategically spent a few hours every week just on scholarship applications, making it part of my schedule. I casted a wide net and applied to any scholarship I was eligible for.

Writing essays for these applications, if required, was a daunting task initially. However, I soon realized that many scholarship essays could be re-used with minor alterations because they commonly ask you to communicate about your experiences, aspirations, and opinions. This significantly reduced the time required per application.

One of the challenges I encountered was staying organized. With so many scholarships that I was applying to, it was crucial to keep a checklist and a calendar of due dates to avoid missing any deadlines.

As for success, it varied. I won a couple of big scholarships that covered a significant amount of my tuition. There were also several smaller scholarships, around a few hundred dollars each, that added up and helped me cover books and other expenses. It did not cover 100% of my expenses, but it significantly reduced my reliance on loans, which was my initial objective.

Finally, even if you don't get a scholarship the first time, don't get discouraged. Many scholarships allow you to apply every year.
