Can you use multiple scholarships for college expenses?

I'm applying for multiple scholarships and curious if you can use them all for college. Are there restrictions on combining scholarships, or can they all go towards tuition and fees?

Absolutely, multiple scholarships can typically be combined to pay for various college expenses. Once you earn a scholarship, the money goes toward your college costs. Depending on the stipulations of each scholarship, these costs may include tuition, fees, housing, books or equipment, and sometimes even personal expenses.

Generally, there are no strict restrictions on combining scholarships, but it does depend on the specifics outlined by each scholarship provider. Some scholarships must be used for tuition costs only, while others can be applied to a wider scope of educational expenses.

However, keep in mind that if you receive need-based financial aid, some colleges may reduce your aid package if you win a private scholarship. Essentially, you can't receive an amount that's greater than your demonstrated financial need. It's a good practice to keep both the financial aid office and your scholarship providers informed about the different sources of financial aid you're receiving, to ensure you're using the funds appropriately and optimally.

If you're applying to many scholarships, I strongly recommend you organize all the details (including how you can spend the money) in one place to keep track of everything. Also, read the rules of each scholarship thoroughly so you fully understand their individual policies.
