High School Freshman Scholarships for College Based on GPA?

I'm a freshman in high school and heard some scholarships look at GPA even at this stage. Should I be doing anything now to improve my chances for scholarships later based on GPA?

Very proactive of you! Yes, there are indeed scholarships out there that look at your GPA even as early as freshman year in high school. These scholarships usually reward students for their consistent academic merit and commitment to their studies.

As you are in your freshman year, focusing on maintaining or improving your grades should be a priority. You could also consider taking more rigorous courses, if available and that fits your course schedule, to demonstrate to scholarship committees your willingness to challenge yourself academically.

Although scholarships rewarding a high GPA are common, also look out for those that focus not only on academic achievements but other factors as well. These can include leadership positions, community service, and extracurricular involvement. By diversifying your high school experiences and achievements, you enhance your scholarship prospects. For instance, you might want to join clubs or engage in other extracurricular activities on topics you are truly passionate about, which can boost your scholarship prospects while shaping your high school experience in a rewarding way.

Remember to also stay organized with the scholarships you research. Keeping track of the ones you're interested in, their specific criteria, and deadlines will be incredibly useful when the time comes to start applying. Good luck on your journey!
