I recently received an invitation to join the National Society of High School Scholars (NSHSS). What benefits does being a member of this organization offer, and is it worth joining? Does it stand out on college applications?
Unfortunately, NSHSS is a "pay to play" honor that doesn't mean much on your application. The requirements for joining are not selective, and they make you pay for membership. People have even called it a scam since many people join each year thinking it's the more prestigious NHS.
NSHSS does have some benefits, including scholarship opportunities, academic competitions, networking events, and discounts on educational resources. That said, you can find many of these resources for free.
