How tough is it to get admitted to Carthage College?

I'm considering applying to Carthage College, and I'm curious about how difficult the admissions process is. Does anyone know what they typically look for in prospective students? Any advice from current students would be appreciated!

Carthage College is generally considered to have a moderately selective admissions process. According to their profile, about 80% of applicants are accepted, but this can fluctuate slightly year-to-year.

When it comes to what the college looks for in potential students, high school transcripts and your corresponding GPA weigh heavily. They'll be paying attention to the rigor of the courses you've taken in high school (with an emphasis on curriculum rigor such as honors, AP, or IB courses, if available) in addition to how well you performed in these classes.

Another factor Carthage considers is extracurricular activities. The college appreciates students who get involved. This doesn't mean you need to join every club or organization at your high school. In fact, colleges tend to prefer students who focus on a few activities and demonstrate significant involvement and leadership, rather than many activities with minimal participation.

Additionally, while Carthage is test-optional and doesn't require SAT or ACT scores for admission, the scores can still be submitted and considered if you believe they enhance your application. Last, but certainly not least, your personal statement or admissions essay can have a big impact. This is typically where you can really help yourself stand out from other applicants by talking about experiences, accomplishments, and challenges that have shaped you. Avoid cliché topics and strive to demonstrate in-depth reflection and personal growth.

Keep in mind that demonstrating interest can also give you a slight edge in the application process. Attending a college tour, engaging with Carthage at college fairs, or having thoughtful conversations during interviews can indicate to admissions that you are serious about attending Carthage if accepted.

However, each application cycle varies, and these are only guidelines. You should contact the admissions office at Carthage College for the most accurate, up-to-date information.
