Experience at De Anza in California?

I'm from out of state and thinking about going to De Anza College in California. Is it worth the move for community college? How are the transfer opportunities and student support services? Any insights would be appreciated.

De Anza College is one of the top community colleges in California, renowned especially for its strong transfer programs. Students from De Anza successfully transfer to many University of California (UC) and California State University (CSU) campuses, as well as various universities across the country. In fact, many students are able to leverage the strong transfer agreements De Anza has with UCs and CSUs to effectively gain entry into these four-year colleges.

Apart from academics, De Anza has plentiful resources in terms of student support services. They offer academic advising, career counseling, disability support programs, study skills workshops, tutoring services, and more. They also have a Transfer Center, specifically designed to help students successfully navigate the transfer process.

In terms of campus life, while it can be a bit more commuter-centered (common for many community colleges), there are numerous clubs and organizations you can join to engage with the campus community.

It's important to note that out-of-state tuition will be higher, something you should evaluate in your decision process. It might be helpful to reach out to the financial aid office or use their online Net Price Calculator to estimate costs.

Finally, coming from out-of-state, remember that moving for college involves more than academics. Think about aspects like the cost of living in the Bay Area, housing options, weather (although, California is known for its pretty mild climate), and the proximity to family.

Overall, De Anza is known for providing a high-quality education, excellent transfer programs, extensive student support, and an engaged campus life, which may make it worth considering. Do your due diligence to ensure it fits both your academic goals and personal comfort.
