Are there scholarships for college in Las Vegas?

I'm thinking about attending college in Las Vegas and trying to figure out if there are any scholarships I could apply for. Has anyone navigated this before or know of any specific scholarships for Nevada students?

Yes, there are quite a number of scholarships available for students in Nevada, including those planning to attend college in Las Vegas. Here are a few that you might consider:

1. Kenny C. Guinn Memorial Scholarship: This is a scholarship established in memory of the late governor of Nevada, Kenny Guinn. to qualify, you must be planning to major in elementary or secondary education, have a GPA of 3.5 or higher, and have graduated high school in Nevada.

2. Governor Guinn Millennium Scholarship: To be eligible, you must be a Nevada resident who graduated from a Nevada high school with a GPA of 3.25 or higher. There is also a community service requirement but it extends access to Nevada's top-performing students.

3. Nevada Promise Scholarship: This one is available for students planning to attend the College of Southern Nevada, allowing them to complete a degree for essentially free. It's a last-dollar scholarship that covers the cost of tuition and fees not covered by other sources of financial aid.

4. Nevada Hispanic Legislative Caucus Scholarship: This scholarship accompanied by a mentorship program is designed specifically for Hispanic students who reside in Las Vegas.

5. Public Education Foundation Scholarships: The Foundation offers more than 200 different scholarships for students in Clark County (which includes Las Vegas), many of which are available to graduating high school seniors.

6. Appily (formerly Cappex) also has a tool that allows you to search for scholarships based on your personal characteristics and interests, and it's free to use.

In addition to these local scholarships, don't forget to apply for national scholarships and to fill out the FAFSA, as you may be eligible for federal or institutional aid as well. Please remember that scholarships generally have deadlines, so make sure to apply in advance.
