What's student diversity like at Lafayette College?

Can anyone share insights on how diverse the student body is at Lafayette College? I'm curious about the mix of cultures and backgrounds, as well as the overall inclusivity on campus.

Lafayette College has taken strides to improve the diversity of their campus over the past few years. In fact, their aim is to create a more comprehensive, more inclusive community, and steps to accomplish this are evident in their enrollment stats and campus initiatives.

In terms of hard numbers, about 33% of the students at Lafayette identify as domestic students of color, which includes African American, Hispanic, Asian, and Native American students. International students comprise around 7% of the student body, coming from a variety of different countries and bringing their unique cultures to campus.

The college has several departments and offices devoted to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion on campus. The Office of Intercultural Development is one such resource which provides programs and services to support the academic and social experiences of traditionally underrepresented students. Similarly, Center for Global Education fosters global awareness and understanding through comprehensive international education, service, and work opportunities.

There are also numerous student-led organizations and clubs which reflect the diverse interests and backgrounds of the student body. These organizations are active and visible on campus and include groups focused on ethnicity, religion, gender, and more.

However, the experience can vary by individual. Some students may find that they feel quite supported and included, while others may feel there's still room for improvement in terms of inclusivity. It would be beneficial to speak with current students or visit the campus to get a hands-on feel of the environment. A school's numbers can give a good sense of the diversity of the student body, but the feeling of inclusivity can often be subjective and individual.

This is not to say Lafayette is perfect, no institution is, but it's clear that they are making a conscious effort to enhance diversity and ensure every student feels included and valued.
