Thoughts on Syracuse Majors and Choosing the Right One

I'm interested in several majors at Syracuse University, but I'm struggling to choose just one. How flexible is the school in terms of switching majors? Any advice on popular or unique programs that are particularly strong at Syracuse?

Syracuse University does have a fairly flexible policy regarding switching majors. Usually, students are allowed to switch their major within the first two years, provided they meet the prerequisite requirements for the new major. It's important to always discuss such things with an academic advisor, as your ability to switch majors may be influenced by how many course requirements you have room to fulfill.

As for major strengths at Syracuse, different programs are recognized for their distinctive strengths.

1. The S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications is renowned nationwide, with highly ranked programs in Journalism, Broadcasting & Digital Journalism, and Public Relations. If you're considering a career in media or communications, these programs should be on top of your list.

2. The School of Information Studies (iSchool) at Syracuse is also well-known. It’s been ranked among the best for Library and Information Studies and offers strong programs in Information Management and Technology.

3. The Martin J. Whitman School of Management offers some highly-regarded programs, such as Supply Chain Management and Entrepreneurship.

4. Syracuse's School of Visual and Performing Arts is home to an illustrious design program, with a notable focus on Environmental & Interior Design.

5. The School of Architecture at Syracuse consistently earns high rankings, boasting a comprehensive and in-depth program that's known nationally.

These are just some examples. Choosing a major should reflect your career goals and personal interests. Don’t hesitate to dig deep into the curriculum of each program to understand course offerings, talk with advisors, or connect with current students. Syracuse offers a wide array of programs, making it a place where you can truly explore and hone your academic interests.
