Can anyone share insights about the UH Hilo campus life?

I'm thinking about the University of Hawaii at Hilo for my college experience. How's the campus life there? Is it pretty active, or does it lean more towards a laid-back vibe? Activities, clubs, and general environment opinions are greatly appreciated!

The University of Hawaii at Hilo offers a unique college experience due to its location on the Big Island. It has a pretty diverse environment considering its international student population from all over the world and students from all the different Hawaiian islands.

In terms of clubs and activities, there are more than 80 registered student organizations which range in focus from academics and culture to recreation and community service. For example, the Campus Center offers programs like free movie nights and make-and-take craft events. And the Student Activities Council organizes pretty big events like Spring Fest and food festivals.

The campus also boasts a Fitness Center and a large, Olympic-sized swimming pool that students often take advantage of for recreational and wellness-related activities. The intramural sports program also offers a range of activities like volleyball, golf, tennis, and more. Additionally, the school also hosts an annual event known as "Family Ho'olaule'a", which is an opportunity for students and their families to interact and experience the Hawaiian culture through food, music, and dance.

Concerning the environment, the campus is relatively laid-back with easy access to some natural spaces. You'd often see students chilling out on the lawns or studying outdoors. However, the academic rigor remains high especially if you're in the STEM or nursing programs.

Overall, UH Hilo is indeed active but also maintains a certain level of laid-back and relaxed vibe due to its location. It's often regarded as a "big school with a small school feel" giving you the best of both worlds.
