How does the University of Virginia compare within the state?

I'm deciding between a few schools in Virginia, and the University of Virginia is on my list. How does it compare with other in-state options? Is it a good choice for a business major?

The University of Virginia (UVA) is consistently ranked among the top public universities in the United States, alongside schools like the College of William and Mary.

If you're interested in business, UVA is an excellent choice. UVA's McIntire School of Commerce is one of the nation's best undergraduate business programs. It's known for its strong curriculum and emphasis on team-based assignments which can be a valuable asset in professions that require collaboration and teamwork. Programs like the Integrated Core Curriculum (ICE) and Global Commerce Immersion are unique to McIntire and offer students holistic, real-world perspectives on commerce.

However, it's also important to consider your fit with the school beyond just the academics. UVA, or colloquially called "Wahoos" or "Hoos", has a vibrant student life and is situated in the historic city of Charlottesville. The school also boasts robust athletics and a number of clubs and organizations for a rich extracurricular experience.

While UVA is a strong choice, Virginia is home to other fantastic schools. For example, if you're considering smaller colleges, William and Mary might be a great fit - it offers a liberal arts approach and a smaller student body. Similarly, James Madison University has well-regarded business programs and a similarly vibrant campus life.

In conclusion, UVA is an excellent choice for a business major, standing strong in academics, student life and alumni network among in-state options. Remember to visit the campuses if you can, to see which environment fits you best!
