What is the student body like at Yale University?

I'm really interested in what life is like at Yale in terms of student interactions and community. How diverse is the student body, and what kinds of extracurriculars or organizations do students get involved in there?

Yale University has a diverse student body, hailing from many different socioeconomic backgrounds, ethnicities, and countries. The student body is characterized by a variety of interests, from the arts to the sciences to activism, which can be seen in the hundreds of student organizations available for participation.

In the realm of academics, students are known for their intellectual curiosity. A lot of this can be seen in the residential college system, where students form tight-knit communities, host events such as study-breaks and formal dinners, and interact closely with the faculty fellows attached to each residential college.

Regarding extra-curriculars, organizations cover a broad spectrum like theater production, political clubs, to community outreach. Many students often highlight the strength of Yale's performing arts scene, including its a cappella groups like the Whiffenpoofs and the Spizzwinks.

In terms of diversity, around half of the student body identifies as ethnic minorities, with international students also comprising a significant portion. There are numerous cultural organizations such as the Asian American Students Alliance or the Black Student Alliance that provide a sort of family-away-from-home feel for many.

In athletics too, there is a major presence with around 30% of students involved in varsity, club, or intramural sports. Yale has hallowed traditions like The Game, an annual football grudge match against Harvard, and the Harvard-Yale Regatta, the United States' oldest collegiate athletic competition.

The vibe of the student body overall is often described as collaborative. Many students find support in their peer mentors, college advisors, and professors.
