Which HBCUs are there in Maryland?

I'm starting my college search and I'm particularly interested in exploring historically black colleges and universities. Can anyone provide a list or some names of HBCUs located in Maryland?

There are some Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) located in Maryland.

1. Morgan State University: Established in 1867 as the Centenary Biblical Institute, it was later renamed in honor of Reverend Lyttleton Morgan, the first chairman of its Board of Trustees, who donated land to the college.

2. Bowie State University: Located in Bowie, Maryland, this university was initially established as a teacher's school in 1865. Today, it offers a wide range of programs across various disciplines.

3. Coppin State University: The university was established in 1900 as a teacher's college and later evolved into a multidisciplinary university. It got its name in honor of Fanny Jackson Coppin, a prominent African-American woman (and previously, a slave), who was a pioneer in teacher education.

4. University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES): UMES was founded in 1886 as the Delaware Conference Academy. Over the years, the institution had several name changes before it became known as UMES. It's particularly strong in STEM and hospitality programs.

Each of these institutions offers a rich history, a multitude of academic offerings, and a sense of community. As with any college option, it's important to research each school thoroughly to understand what they individually offer and if it suits your academic and personal goals.
