Experiences at the University of California, Merced?

As I'm researching UC campuses, UC Merced has caught my interest. Can anyone share what it's like studying there? How are the programs, and is there a strong campus community? Any advice for a prospective student?

UC Merced is relatively new to the University of California (UC) system and this newer status affords it some unique advantages. This includes access to state-of-the-art facilities and a lower student to faculty ratio compared to other UC campuses.
