What Does the College Bound Scholarship Cover?

I'm trying to figure out what expenses the College Bound Scholarship pays for. Does it cover tuition and fees only, or can it cover books and housing too? I'm planning my finances and any detail would help a ton.

The College Bound Scholarship is a commitment of state funds that will combine with other state financial aid to cover tuition (up to a certain amount based on public college tuition rates) and fees at eligible colleges. But it doesn't stop there - it also provides a small book allowance.

However, it's important to note that the Scholarship does not directly cover housing or other living expenses. For students who need help covering these costs, other forms of financial aid such as grants, work-study, and student loans may be needed.

Remember, the College Bound Scholarship usually combines with other state aid to create a funding package, not all of that funding may be “free money” like grants or scholarships. Portions of it may be work-study, where you’ll work to earn the money, or student loans that you will have to repay, so it's vital to know exactly what your individual financial aid package contains.

Also, keep in mind that while the College Bound Scholarship can be used at over 60 colleges, universities, and technical schools in the state, some private colleges may choose not to participate or may limit the number of College Bound Scholarships they accept. Therefore, it's important to check the details of how the scholarship is applied at each institution you're considering.
