Are There Writing Scholarships Available for College Students?

I'm a college-bound junior with a passion for writing. Are there any scholarships specifically for students who excel in writing or creative writing? Any recommendations would be super helpful!

Absolutely, there are numerous scholarships available for students who excel in writing or creative writing.

One worth noting is the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards. This program offers a variety of scholarships for students in grades 7-12, and includes several categories for writing work. Be sure to check out their guidelines as they could make a great fit.

Signet Essay Contest is sponsored by Penguin publishing and offers five high school juniors or seniors a $1,000 scholarship award for writing an essay on a specific topic or book.

Other programs include the We The Students Essay Contest, which offers a grand prize of $5,000 (and some other cash prizes) to the writer of the most thoughtful essay on the importance of the Constitution.

Additionally, the Norman Mailer College Writing Awards offers a prize of up to $10,000 for the best creative writing piece by an undergraduate student.

Remember to verify deadlines and eligibility requirements before applying. You should also consider looking into scholarships offered at the school you plan to attend, as many universities have their own awards for distinguished writers. Lastly, remember every bit helps when it comes to funding your education, so do apply even to smaller scholarship contests!

Good luck! Your enthusiasm for writing will definitely shine through in your applications.
