How does Pitt Johnstown differ from main campus?

I'm thinking about applying to Pitt at Johnstown and I'm curious about how it differs from the main Pittsburgh campus. How are campus life, academics, and overall student experience on the Johnstown campus?

Although both the University of Pittsburgh's main campus and the Johnstown campus bear the name of Pitt, they offer quite different experiences.

When comparing the two campuses, first consider location. The main Pitt campus is located in the urban setting of Pittsburgh, surrounded by the cultural amenities a big city affords, such as museums, arts venues, sports stadiums, and diverse food options. On the other hand, Pitt Johnstown is nestled in a more rural setting in Johnstown, a town that's smaller and quieter, offering a close-knit, community feel.

When it comes to academics, the main campus offers a wider range of majors and opportunities for research due to its larger size, whereas Johnstown has a more limited number of degree programs. However, at Johnstown, you may find smaller class sizes, more face-to-face interaction with faculty, and a more tailored college experience. Remember, though, that both campuses uphold the University of Pittsburgh's commitment to quality education.

In terms of student life, while the main Pitt campus offers a larger student body and a greater number of student organizations, Pitt Johnstown offers a more intimate campus where it might be easier to get involved in leadership roles in clubs and organizations.

Keep in mind that every student's experience is unique, and these are just general observations. You should reach out to both schools, attend virtual or in-person tours if possible, and speak with current students or alumni to get a feel for which campus would fit you best.
