What's the vibe like at University of the South Sewanee?

I've heard some things about the University of the South, also known as Sewanee. I'm curious about what campus life is like there. How's the social scene and the academics? Would love to hear from someone who's been there.

Sewanee, or the University of the South, is a liberal arts college located in the rural setting of Sewanee, Tennessee. Known for its distinctive Gothic architecture, 13,000 acres of beautiful campus, and the unique tradition of "Sewanee dress," one would say that the school offers a mix of tradition and natural beauty, with an academically rigorous environment.

On the academic front, this school is well-known for its vibrant arts scene and strong programs in English, History, and Psychology. Classes are usually small with a keen focus on personalized learning and interaction between students and faculty. This, along with an emphasis on research and writing, often leads to strong academic experiences and preparedness for different career paths.

The social scene at Sewanee is one that is predominantly defined by its small-school charm and tight-knit community. Due to the relatively isolated location of the college, a lot of the social life revolves around campus activities, leaving plenty of opportunities for students to develop close bonds. Although Greek Life has a solid presence on campus, it does not dominate the social scene, with other extracurricular activities such as athletics, clubs, and outdoor recreation being popular amongst students. The Outing Club, in particular, utilizes the campus's expansive wilderness and opportunities for outdoor activities.

Over time students have found a balance between their academics and their social life at Sewanee. It can be rigorous, but students take time to join activities they enjoy. Remember, however, that everyone's personal experience may differ. It can be a good idea to virtually visit or physically tour the campus if possible, to gain a more personal understanding of the college environment.
