Opinions on New Jersey Institute of Technology University?

Hey guys, I'm looking at the New Jersey Institute of Technology University. What's the tech scene like there? I'm interested in engineering and want to know if it’s a strong school for that. How’s the campus life?

The New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) is indeed well-regarded for its engineering programs, especially in fields such as mechanical engineering, civil engineering, and electrical engineering. They also have strong programs in computer science and bioengineering. The professors are generally experienced, capable, and engaged in research, which presents ripe opportunities for undergraduate research and internships.

NJIT's location in Newark also offers plenty of opportunities for the tech career field as it’s near plenty of large technology and engineering firms. This can offer students a substantial edge when it comes to securing internships and job opportunities during and after their studies.

As for campus life, NJIT offers over 140 student clubs and organizations including plenty of engineering and technology-centric ones. In these groups, you can collaborate with fellow students on tech projects and engage in competitions which can further enhance your learning experience.

The campus itself is relatively small and urban, situated in downtown Newark. Some students have described it as being more of a commuter school with a significant percentage of students living off campus. However, efforts have been made to make the campus more residential and to enrich the social environment. The surrounding area of Newark might not be everybody's ideal college town but it's worth noting that you're not too far from New York City if you're looking for a change of scenery.

As with any institution, it's crucial to visit yourself if possible, to have a feel of the environment since personal fit can have a significant impact on your college experience. Take advantage of ways to connect with current students and faculty, attend some virtual events or orientation sessions, and have a list of questions prepared about things that are important to you. Good luck in finding your best fit!
