Is the University of New Haven a good fit for someone interested in criminal justice?

I'm considering a career in criminal justice and have heard good things about UNH’s program. Can anyone share their experiences or insight into what makes it stand out? Are there good internship opportunities?

The University of New Haven (UNH) has an excellent reputation for its criminal justice program, and many students find the coursework to be practical, engaging, and in-depth. The program is nationally recognized and the faculty members bring a wealth of knowledge and experience from their work in the field.

Moreover, the Henry C. Lee College of Criminal Justice and Forensic Sciences at UNH is named after one of the world's foremost forensic scientists, offering students unique insights and connections in the field. The curriculum is multidimensional, covering facets of law enforcement, courts, corrections systems, and criminology theory. UNH’s program does a good job to prepare students for a variety of careers in the criminal justice field through rigorous academics and real-world learning experiences.

Internship opportunities are a strong point for UNH and are often a highlight in the student’s pathway. Students have the opportunity to intern with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies, legal offices, social service providers, and other relevant organizations. These internships allow students to get hands-on experience, make professional connections, and gain a better understanding of the various elements of the criminal justice system.

Lastly, their state-of-the-art facilities, including a simulated emergency operations center, a fire science lab, and working crime scene labs, can give students the kind of hands-on experience that excels in preparing for their future career in the field of criminal justice.

Of course, whether or not UNH is the right fit for you also depends on other factors such as your personal preferences and your other academic and extracurricular interests. It’s always a good idea to visit the campus, talk with current students and faculty, and explore all that the university has to offer before making a decision.
