What are some top criminal justice colleges in New York?

I'm considering majoring in criminal justice and want to stay in New York for college. What are some of the best criminal justice programs in the state? Do they offer good internships or connections for future jobs?

There are several renowned schools in New York that offer acclaimed Criminal Justice programs.

1. John Jay College of Criminal Justice (CUNY): It is arguably the best-known criminal justice school in the country, let alone New York. They have innovative courses, influential faculty, and diverse research opportunities. Their reputation attracts many criminal justice-related organizations to their career fairs, which can provide internship or job opportunities.

2. University at Albany (SUNY): They have a well-regarded School of Criminal Justice that offers both undergraduate and graduate programs. They also offer internships where students can gain firsthand experience in the field.

3. Buffalo State College (SUNY): Their program prepares students for careers in federal, state, and local law enforcement, parole, and probation. Their degrees focus on analytical skills and understanding of treating and preventing crime.

4. Zicklin School of Business, Baruch College (CUNY): While it's not a traditional criminal justice degree, their program in Fraud Examination and Financial Forensics might provide an interesting alternative if you're interested in the investigative side of the field. Internships are also available to gain real-world experience.

When choosing a college, ensure to consider socio-political orientation and faculty expertise, resources, and research depth since they differ between schools. Meet with the faculty, talk to current students, or even sit in a class if you can. Last but not least, take a look at what sort of career services the school offers, such as internship placement, job prep workshops, and connections in the industry. Good luck with your decision!
