How does Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA, stack up?

I've been looking at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA. What do students think about the campus and programs there? Is it a good choice for someone planning to major in engineering?

Old Dominion University (ODU) is generally considered a solid choice, especially for students majoring in engineering. Known for its strong programs and commitment to research, the Frank Batten College of Engineering and Technology at ODU offers a variety of disciplines like Civil and Environmental Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, and Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering.

The campus life at ODU is active and engaging. There are plenty of student organizations to participate in, campus events, and opportunities for leadership roles. It's located in Norfolk, VA, which presents a range of cultural events and attractions off-campus too!

As for the engineering program, it's well-regarded, and students often hail the department for its experienced faculty and hands-on curriculum. There are numerous opportunities for internships and cooperative education programs which allow students to gain real-world experience before graduation.

One important thing to note is the campus size. ODU is a fairly large public university with a student population of over 20,000. The large size can be a positive for students seeking a diverse student body and wide-ranging resources, but it may not be as ideal for those seeking smaller class sizes and more personalized attention.

In terms of student support, the University has various centers like the Learning Commons at Perry Library and the Peer Educator Program that aid students in their academic journey. They facilitate study groups, workshops, one-on-one tutoring sessions, and much more.

Remember to visit the campus, if possible, as it can give you a better feel for the university's environment, and you can meet potential peers and professors. This will give you a clearer picture to see if ODU is the right fit for you.
