Are there scholarships for US students studying abroad?

I'm a US high school junior interested in attending college internationally. Are there any scholarships available for American students who want to study outside the US? I want to explore my funding options early on.

There are indeed scholarships available specifically for American students who wish to study internationally. These come in a variety of formats and are offered by a variety of organizations, from governments to universities to private foundations. Here are a few examples:

- The Fulbright U.S. Student Program offers grants for U.S. graduating seniors, graduate students, young professionals, and artists to study, conduct research, and potentially teach in over 140 countries.

- The Boren Awards offer ample funding for U.S. undergraduate students to study less commonly taught languages in world regions critical to U.S. interests, but underrepresented in study abroad programs, such as Africa, Asia, Central and Eastern Europe, Eurasia, Latin America, and the Middle East.

- The Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program provides scholarships to U.S. undergraduates with financial need for study or internships abroad, including students from diverse backgrounds and students going to underrepresented study-abroad destinations.

In addition to these well-known examples, it's worth noting that many international universities have scholarships specifically for international students, which includes U.S. students. Plus, there are several private foundations, organizations, and corporations that offer scholarships for this purpose.

Remember to check both the application and eligibility requirements as they can vary greatly from one scholarship to another. Consider your academic performance, leadership potential, public service, field of study, financial need, and other criteria. Several scholarships focus on promoting study abroad in specific countries or regions, or a specific academic discipline.

Finally, don't forget to explore the Financial Aid Office at the universities you're considering. Many schools have resources to help international students find funding. Remember, applying for scholarships can be a lengthy process so it's great that you're starting early!
