How to find athletic scholarships for international students in the USA?

I'm an international student hoping to study in the USA and participate in college sports. Does anyone know how to find athletic scholarships available to international students? Any tips on applying or programs that are particularly supportive?

Beginning your search for athletic scholarships can feel overwhelming, but there are steps you can follow to make it more manageable. Let's break it down:

1. Identify your sport: Specify your sport and the division level you're interested in (e.g., NCAA Division I, II, III, etc.)

2. Reach out to Coaches: Start contacting coaches of programs you're interested in, preferably during your junior year. Ensure your email is well-written, and formal, and includes video links to display your athletic prowess.

3. Athlete Profile: Consider creating an athlete profile on a recruiting website like BeRecruited or the NCAA's own eligibility center for exposure.

4. Understand the Rules: Spend time understanding NCAA and NAIA eligibility requirements for international students. While both organizations allow for international student-athlete scholarships, they each have their own specific set of rules and protocols you need to follow.

5. Apply for Aid: In addition to athletic scholarships, apply for financial aid using the FAFSA or CSS profile. These can open doors to supplemental aid.

6. Collegiate Sports Organizations: Besides NCAA and NAIA, you can also look into NJCAA and CCCAA, organizations that oversee junior and community college athletics and may also offer athletic scholarships.

Remember, persistence and proactivity are the keys. It might take time to find the right fit, but there are many U.S. programs excited to welcome international student-athletes. Keep your academics strong as well; colleges are looking for student-athletes who can excel in the classroom, as well as on the field.

Best of luck!
