What's campus life like at UNH?

I'm looking at UNH for college and wonder what it's like to attend there. How is the social scene, and are there plenty of extracurriculars? Would love to hear personal experiences from current students or alumni.

The University of New Hampshire (UNH) is a public institution with a strong sense of community. The campus itself is sprawling and picturesque with green spaces ideal for study or leisure. You’ll find UNH to be a vibrant environment, with plenty of on-campus events like athletic games, cultural events, and guest speakers.

Extracurricular-wise, UNH offers a wide range of activities, with over 200 student-run clubs and organizations, including academic clubs, sports teams, and a number of cultural and special interest groups. So, whether you're into intramural sports, photography, theater, or volunteering, you'll likely find a group that aligns with your interests.

The social scene is also quite diverse at UNH. Greek life does play a role at UNH with about 18% of students being part of a fraternity or sorority. However, the social scene isn't confined to Greek life; there are several other avenues to socialize and make friends. The Memorial Union Building is a popular hub where students gather for various events, activities and club meetings.

There's also a big emphasis on athletics at UNH. With NCAA Division I teams, home games, particularly for football and hockey, are a big deal and tend to draw a lot of student participation.

From an academic perspective, many students have found their classes engaging and faculty accessible. These personal interactions can greatly enhance your overall college experience.

Lastly, don't miss the opportunity to explore Durham, the town that UNH calls home. With a small-town charm, Durham offers local shops, restaurants, and outdoor activities. Lastly, UNH’s location allows for easy access to both mountains for hiking and the coastline for beach days, thus providing students with opportunities for recreation off-campus.

So, in essence, campus life at UNH can be described as active and inclusive, with plenty of opportunities for students to get involved, meet new people, and enrich their college experience. As always, everyone's experience will be a little different, so I encourage you to visit the campus or connect with current students or alumni to get a first-person perspective if possible.
