Portland Oregon Community Colleges Experience?

I'm thinking of attending a community college in Portland, Oregon. What are the standout programs or opportunities at these schools? Also, how's the student community there?

As a Portland area, we're fortunate to have a number of strong community colleges with various standout programs and opportunities. Let me talk a bit about a few of them.

Portland Community College (PCC) is the largest community college in the state and offers a wide range of programs. One of its standout programs is the Associate of Applied Science in Nursing program, which is highly rated and prepares students for a career in a variety of healthcare settings. They also offer extensive programs in computer science and environmental studies. As for extracurriculars, PCC has many active student clubs, and the campus hosts a variety of events throughout the year, such as cultural celebrations and speaking engagements.

Mt. Hood Community College is another excellent option if you're interested in natural resources — they have an excellent Fisheries Technology program. Their Graphic Design program is also well-regarded with state-of-the-art facilities.

Clackamas Community College stands out for their horticulture and automotive programs. They have an expansive horticulture facility and their automotive program is ASE-certified.

In terms of student community, you'll generally find that the colleges have less of a traditional campus life due to many students having jobs, families, or other commitments. However, each school does offer a variety of clubs and activities that allow students to connect and build a sense of community.

Remember, each school has its strengths, so it might be helpful to consider your specific academic and career interests when choosing between them. You may also want to visit the campuses if you can, talk with some current students or faculty, and see which college feels like the best fit for you. Good luck with your decision!
