What are some notable HBCUs in Maryland?

I'm considering applying to an HBCU in Maryland and would like to know what to expect. Does anyone have insights on campus life, academics, or specific programs that make these schools unique?

There are four notable Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) in Maryland: Morgan State University, Coppin State University, Bowie State University, and University of Maryland Eastern Shore.

Morgan State University, located in Baltimore, has a vibrant campus life with numerous student organizations and Greek life options. Academically, Morgan State is particularly known for its strong programs in engineering and architecture.

Coppin State University, also located in Baltimore, is a smaller campus with a strong sense of community. The university offers a variety of programs, but their nursing and criminal justice programs are particularly noteworthy.

Bowie State University, located in Bowie, MD, is the oldest HBCU in Maryland. The campus life at Bowie is enriched by a variety of sporting events, cultural activities, and student organizations. Their Education, Business Administration, and Computer Science programs are shining stars academically.

Last but not least, the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) in Princess Anne is known for its programs in agricultural sciences, hotel management, and physical therapy. UMES has a relatively rural setting, providing a distinct and quiet academic environment.

Each of these institutions has a unique flavor and a proud tradition of helping to cultivate leaders within the African American community. I advise researching each to see which one aligns best with your academic interests and personal preferences.
