What's the undergraduate population like at UConn?

I'm curious about the size of the undergraduate student body at the University of Connecticut. How many students are there, and does it feel big or small? Considering UConn for engineering, so knowing about the community size would help. Thanks!

The University of Connecticut, often called UConn, is quite sizable. As of fall 2023, the undergraduate population was approximately 19,000 students. It's important to note that this number includes all UConn's campuses, but the majority of undergraduates, about 14,000, are based at the main campus in Storrs.

Regarding the community feel, it's a bit subjective and can vary from student to student. Considering UConn's size, you'd likely experience a 'bigger' college feel, synonymous with a variety of academic and extracurricular opportunities, a diverse student body, and vibrant campus life. At the same time, it's worth mentioning that specific programs, like Engineering, can create close-knit communities within the larger university context. This can give students a sense of belonging and familiarity.

That being said, visiting the campus (if possible) is a great way to gauge if UConn's size feels right for you. Keep in mind, a larger university can provide a wealth of opportunities, but that comes with the responsibility of being proactive in seeking out those resources and experiences.
