What scholarships are available for international students at University of Maryland?

I'm an international student considering applying to the University of Maryland and I'm trying to figure out what scholarship options are available for us. Does anyone know if they provide significant financial aid or is it pretty limited?

University of Maryland (UMD) does offer some scholarship opportunities for international students, although the choices aren't as plentiful compared with those available for domestic students.

One of the scholarships they offer is the International Student Scholarship, which requires no separate application; all admitted students are automatically considered. It's based on a combination of outstanding academic achievement, impressive communication skills, and leadership experience.

Another noteworthy scholarship is the President's ConnectED Scholarship, which is awarded to students who have graduated from an international secondary school and who have made a significant impact on their community through service. You'd need to focus on these experiences in your application.

There's also the Banneker/Key Scholarship, which is the most prestigious merit scholarship offered by UMD. It covers full tuition, room, and board, and a book allowance. However, it's extremely competitive and you need to be nominated for it.

Although they offer scholarships, you'll find that financial aid for international students at UMD is fairly limited. The university doesn’t meet the full need for international students either, which means there might be a gap between how much you can afford and how much the university is charging.

So, it's a good idea to also look for scholarships offered by other organizations and your own country’s government or colleges in your home nation. Lastly, always check with the office of financial aid or the international student services at UMD, as they can provide you with the most up-to-date information.

Remember, studying in the U.S. as an international student can be costly, so careful financial planning is important.
