California scholarships for students coming from abroad?

I'm thinking about studying in California but I'm from abroad. What kind of scholarships are available for international students in California? Are there specific universities that are more generous with financial aid for international students?

While scholarships for international students in the U.S. can be comparatively limited, there are still opportunities available in California.

Firstly, it's important to know that scholarships may be offered at the university level or by external organizations. Universities in California, such as University of Southern California (USC) and Stanford University, do offer financial aid to international students, though these awards can be quite competitive.

USC, for example, has the "International Freshman Academic Scholarships", with different levels based on academic performance.

Stanford University also has a good financial aid program for international students. They evaluate families in much the same in the same way they do U.S. families, meaning your ability to pay is evaluated and aid package is put together to meet your full financial need.

For external scholarships, check out the International Education Financial Aid (IEFA) website. It has a comprehensive search engine for scholarships designed for international students. Appily is another resource to use. This website offers a scholarship search engine that you can use to find scholarships you're eligible for, including scholarships for international students.

In addition, consider looking into scholarships through international organizations such as Rotary or the Fulbright Program, which offer financial support for international study.

Remember that the aid for international students may not look the same as for U.S. students, as governmental aid like the Pell Grant or federal student loans are typically not available for international students.

Lastly, it's important to communicate with each university's international students office or financial aid office. They can provide the most accurate and updated information about what financial aid opportunities are available for international students.
