Are there full scholarships for international students at NYU?

I know NYU can be expensive, but I've heard they offer full scholarships to international students. Does anyone know how competitive it is and what I need to do to increase my chances of getting one?

NYU does offer financial aid to international students, including a number of named scholarships that can cover full tuition, student fees, and sometimes even room and board. It's important to be aware, though, that these scholarships are quite competitive as a large number of international students apply to NYU each year.

To increase your chances of receiving a full scholarship, there are a few things you should keep in mind:

1. Academic Excellence: Instill confidence in the admissions committee that you're not only qualified but that you're a scholar in the real sense. Strong academic records, SAT or ACT scores (if you have them), and compelling recommendation letters can significantly increase your chances of a full scholarship.

2. Differentiation Factor: A unique aspect, often referred to as a "spike", that sets you apart from other applicants can significantly aid your chances. This could be an uncommon extracurricular activity, a significant achievement in a certain area, or a unique project you've undertaken.

3. Financial Need: Some of these awards are based on demonstrated financial need. You'll be required to submit the College Scholarship Service (CSS) Profile to help determine this. While applying, be open and honest about your family's financial circumstances so the college can adequately assess your need.

4. Essays: Scholarships often rely on your application essays. Reflect on personal experiences that were critical in shaping your identity, or the particular challenges that you've overcome, that make you a unique individual. The scholarship committee seeks individuals who will bring diverse perspectives, so your essays should convey what you will bring to the university.

Remember, there's no foolproof strategy to guarantee a full scholarship. But emphasizing these areas can certainly improve your chances. Good luck!
