Experiences at Carnegie Mellon University?

I'm thinking about applying to Carnegie Mellon University and would love to hear from current students or recent grads about their experiences. How's the workload, campus life, and opportunities for internships? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Carnegie Mellon is known for its rigorous academics and the workload can definitely be challenging, especially since many of its programs are STEM-focused. However, most students find that it prepares them well for both employment and graduate school. Remember, it's okay – and in fact, encouraged – to seek help when you need it, whether it's from your professors, academic advisors, or free campus resources such as tutoring programs.

For campus life, CMU offers a variety of clubs and extracurricular activities that cover a wide range of interests. From theatre groups to robotics clubs, there's likely something you'll enjoy. The student body often organizes various events and activities too for students to relax and have fun outside of classes. The campus itself is close to downtown Pittsburgh, so there's no shortage of things to do off-campus as well.

In terms of internships, CMU's reputation and its close relationships with industry leaders provide students with plenty of opportunities. The school's career center is incredibly supportive and provides assistance with finding internships, interview preparation, and more. In fact, many students report securing internships and job offers before graduation.

My piece of advice would be to make the most of these resources and opportunities. Engage actively in classes that interest you, utilize the career center, and participate in clubs or student organizations that align with your passions. This balanced approach will enhance your college experience at CMU. Just be prepared for the demanding workload and remember to balance your academics with your social life and self-care.
