Curious about Caltech majors?

I'm really interested in the different majors offered at Caltech. Can anyone share their experiences or insight into which programs are particularly strong or unique at Caltech? I'm trying to narrow down my interests. Thanks in advance!

Absolutely, Caltech is renowned for its strength in science and engineering. The school is particularly noted for its offerings in physics, chemistry, and mathematics. Unlike many institutions which separate these disciplines into distinct majors, Caltech integrates them into hybrid programs that foster interdisciplinary study, such as Chemical Engineering and Applied and Computational Mathematics.

The university also provides unique opportunities for practical experience. As an example, the Aerospace Engineering program operates the GALCIT Flight Lab, where students can get hands-on experience designing, building, and testing their own aircraft and rocket models.

Bioengineering is another standout program at Caltech. This discipline integrates principles from biology and engineering to design systems and products. Due to Caltech's relatively small size, bioengineering students often can contribute to advanced research projects as undergraduates, which is somewhat rare in larger universities.

However, it's not all about STEM at Caltech. Humanities and Social Sciences are also available as majors, and every student, regardless of their major, is required to take a number of courses in these areas. This ensures a well-rounded education and provides students with the communication and critical-thinking skills that are valuable in all careers.

Ultimately, though, the strength of your education at Caltech will depend on your passion and dedication to your chosen major. Many students say it's the combination of rigorous coursework, cutting-edge research opportunities, and close-knit community that makes studying at Caltech a unique and enriching experience.
