Key details on UVU admissions for potential applicants?

Utah Valley University is on my radar, and I'm trying to get a grasp of their admissions process. Does anyone have insights on application tips, acceptance rates, or anything specific about what UVU looks for in candidates?

Sure, happy to provide some information on Utah Valley University (UVU)!

One of the unique things about UVU is its open-admission policy, meaning any student with a high school diploma or GED is generally guaranteed acceptance. However, for certain competitive programs, there might be additional application requirements and it's not guaranteed you'll be admitted into your program of choice.

When it comes to coursework, UVU suggests that high school students have at least 4 years of English, 3-4 years of Math, 3 years of Science, 2 years of Social Science, and 1.5 years of Arts. Additionally, it is recommended that applicants have a grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 or higher, although this is more of a guideline than a strict requirement.

For testing, while admission to the university is not dependent on your ACT or SAT scores, these scores – if available – can help you when it comes to course placement. Again, this isn't strictly enforced, and many students attend UVU before taking or while preparing for these tests.

Note that, like most colleges, UVU will also consider your essays, extracurricular involvement, leadership, and volunteer/work experience – these aspects help paint a clearer image of who you are beyond your academic performance.

Remember to submit your documents by the priority application deadline of August 1 for the Fall Semester (March 1 for Fall scholarships), and by December 1 for the Spring Semester to be considered for scholarships. Financial aid applications should be completed as soon as possible.

Assuming you meet the minimum requirements and are interested in attending, my advice would be to submit an application and visit the campus if possible. This will give you a better feel of what it's like to be a student there and whether UVU is a good fit for you.
