What are the scholarships like at Caltech for international students?

I'm an international student considering applying to the California Institute of Technology. Does anyone know what kind of scholarships or financial aid options might be available for international students there?

Caltech offers need-based financial aid to a limited number of international students each year. Unlike many other schools, it doesn't distinguish between domestic and international students when awarding these funds. This means that, if you're an international student and you show you have a significant financial need, you could be eligible to receive financial aid.

It's important to note, however, that as an international student, you must apply for financial aid at the same time you submit your application for admission. Financial aid is not guaranteed and is highly competitive due to the limited number of students they can support.

Of course, apart from the school-provided aid, international students might also consider looking for external scholarship programs or funding sources relevant to their home country.

Finally, remember Caltech is one of the schools that meets 100% of the demonstrated needs of students it admits. This means that if you do qualify for financial aid, your package would cover the full difference between what your family is expected to pay and the total cost of attendance. This package could include a combination of grants/scholarships, work-study, and loans.

However, be sure to calculate your estimated contribution before applying, so you have an understanding of what you and your family may be expected to contribute.
