Which scholarships support international African students for college?

I'm from Africa and considering studying abroad for college. Are there any scholarships targeted specifically for international African students? Trying to understand my options early on as a high school junior.

There are indeed several scholarships targeted specifically towards international students from Africa who wish to pursue their undergraduate studies abroad. Here are a few examples:

1. Mastercard Foundation: This organization has collaborated with multiple institutions across the world, such as University of California, Berkeley and University of Toronto, to fund full scholarships for international students from Africa. The scholarships cover tuition, living expenses, books, and more.

2. Aga Khan Foundation’s International Scholarship Program: Although not exclusively for African students, this scholarship supports postgraduate students from select developing countries who have no other means of financing their education.

3. The Yale Young African Scholars (YYAS) program: This offers access to mentorship, test preparation, and access to financial aid resources for High School Students from Africa planning to apply to North American universities. While not a scholarship itself, it can greatly aid in gaining admissions and subsequent scholarships.

It’s important to note that scholarships can depend not only on where you're from, but also where you're planning to study. Various countries and their institutions may have their own scholarships for international students, like the U.S. Fulbright Program or the UK’s Chevening Scholarships.

Plus, don't overlook opportunities at your prospective universities. Some universities offer need-blind admissions and full-need aid to international students, like Harvard, Yale, and MIT.

Lastly, it’s excellent that you’re thinking about this early, be proactive in researching and applying as some scholarships have early deadlines. Good luck!
