Looking for Scholarships in America for International Students

I'm planning to apply to universities in the US and was wondering about the best scholarships available to international students there. Are there some key scholarships that I should definitely consider, and any specific criteria to keep in mind?

It's wonderful that you're excited about studying in the U.S and are proactively seeking scholarships. Although finding financial aid as an international student can be challenging, there are indeed scholarships which international students can apply to.

1. Fulbright Foreign Student Program: Available for international students in all fields excluding medical studies. The Fulbright Program provides funding for the duration of the study which includes tuition, textbooks, airfare, a living stipend, and health insurance.

2. Hubert Humphrey Fellowship Program: This non-degree scholarship program is for international, experienced professionals wishing to undertake 10 months of academic study in the U.S.

3. Tortuga Backpacks Study Abroad Scholarship: Awarded biannually to passionate international students wishing to study in the U.S. The awardee receives $1,000 for their education and a travel backpack.

4. David P. Shapiro’s Leukemia Scholarship: This $1,000 scholarship is available to undergraduate and postgraduate students who have battled cancer at any point in their lives or those who have a parent, sibling, immediate family member, or close friend that has battled or is currently battling cancer.

5. Clubs of America Scholarship: Open to current college students in the U.S and offers a $1,000 award, with an application involving an essay on service experiences in student’s life.

Remember to always verify scholarship requirements as they may include criteria such as specific country residency, area of study, academic merit, financial need, among others.

Additionally, be sure to consider university-specific scholarships for international students, as many American universities offer considerable financial aid packages. For example, notable universities with aid for international students include MIT, Harvard, Princeton, Yale, and Amherst. You should check the financial aid webpages on specific university websites for this information.

Finally, look for scholarships in your home country that can be used for studying abroad, and consider contacting the U.S embassy or consulate in your home country for information about other available aid.

Good luck with your search!
