Scholarships for International Students in New York?

I'm considering studying in New York, and I'm wondering about scholarship options available for international students there. Does anyone know of specific scholarships or advice on where to search?

New York has several universities that offer scholarships to international students. As you've asked for specific scholarships, let's start with those.

1. Columbia University offers a limited number of scholarships to international students on a need-based and merit-based framework. However, they are incredibly competitive. Hence, prospective applicants are also encouraged to seek alternate funding sources.

2. New York University (NYU) offers every admitted student, regardless of citizenship, an opportunity to apply for need-based financial aid. NYU also offers scholarships based on merit, talent, and/or financial need.

3. Cornell University has a few limited international scholarships. Most of its international students are self-funded, but some funding is available. It mainly consists of loans and campus employment rather than scholarships.

Apart from these specific university scholarships, international students can explore external scholarships available to them such as:

a. The 'Davis United World College Scholars Program' provides need-based grant aid to graduates of United World College Schools accepted to partner universities (includes several New York universities).

b. The Rotary Foundation offers the 'Global Grants' scholarship for graduate students where you could study in another country for one to four academic years.

But remember, both university-specific and external scholarships are often highly competitive. Hence, cast your net wide, and apply to several. Trying your luck with private scholarships, reaching out to international organizations, corporations, and trusts can also turn up alternative funding options.

As for searching these scholarships, you could use scholarship search platforms like FastWeb and Scholarship.com. For university-specific scholarships, it would be best to explore the financial aid page of the respective universities you're interested in.

Try to start the process early, stay organized by tracking deadlines and requirements for each scholarship, and ensure your application material - essays, recommendations, forms - are all in order. Best of luck with your search!
